Waterjet Cutting

Waterjet cutting: Precision without limits

Versatile, precise and without heat impact: Waterjet cutting enables highly precise cutting of a wide range of materials and complex geometries. As a cold cutting process, waterjet technology delivers material-friendly processing, maximum flexibility and economic advantages – even where other cutting methods reach their limits.

What is waterjet cutting?

Waterjet cutting is a cold cutting process in which water is focused at pressures of up to 6,000 bar and directed through a fine nozzle. This creates a high-pressure waterjet with enormous cutting power that precisely cuts almost any material. As the process operates without thermal impact, the structure and properties of the material remain completely intact.

Depending on the material and application, either pure water or a water-abrasive mixture is used. This allows both soft and hard materials to be processed reliably and in a material-friendly manner.

Pure waterjet cutting and abrasive waterjet cutting

In pure waterjet cutting, only water is used as the cutting medium. The process is particularly suitable for soft materials such as foams, rubber, films and certain plastics, enabling precise cutting of sensitive materials.

In abrasive waterjet cutting, a fine garnet abrasive is added to the waterjet. This makes it possible to precisely process hard materials such as metals, glass, stone, ceramics and composite materials.

The advantages of waterjet cutting

Waterjet cutting combines precision, material versatility and processing without heat impact in a single process. This makes wwaterjet technology suitable for a wide range of materials and applications – from sensitive materials to high-strength materials, and from intricate precision parts to large-format components. At the same time, clean cut edges and a narrow kerf enable efficient and cost-effective manufacturing.

No thermal impact

As the process operates without thermal impact, the material properties remain completely intact. Particularly suitable for sensitive materials and demanding applications.

For almost any material

From metals and plastics to glass, ceramics, stone and composite materials: waterjet cutting is suitable for almost any material.

Highest precision

Even complex contours, fine radii and small holes can be realised with exceptional precision. Ideal for components with the highest requirements for accuracy and attention to detail.

Material-friendly processing

Thanks to the minimal mechanical load, even sensitive materials and demanding composite materials can be processed gently. Even delicate material structures remain intact.

Maximum flexibility

From thin films to massive materials, from micro parts to large-format components: waterjet cutting offers maximum flexibility. Suitable for prototypes, one-off parts, small production runs and series production.

Cost-effective manufacturing

Clean cut edges reduce the need for post-processing. At the same time, the narrow kerf minimises material loss and supports cost-effective manufacturing.

Precision, quality and technical capabilities

Waterjet cutting opens up possibilities that go far beyond conventional cutting applications. Depending on the material, geometry and waterjet technology used, even the highest requirements for precision, cut quality and attention to detail can be achieved. The following key figures demonstrate what is possible with modern waterjet cutting.

Tolerance

  • up to ±0.02 mm

For components with the highest requirements for accuracy.

Smallest radii

  • from 0.1 mm

Intricate contours, complex geometries and minimal kerf widths.

Surface finish

  • up to N7 (Ra 1.6)

Clean, low-burr cut edges with minimal post-processing requirements.

Material thicknesses

  • up to several hundred millimetres

From thin films to material thicknesses of several hundred millimetres – depending on the material.

Component sizes

  • up to 8,000 × 3,000 mm

From micro parts to large-format components. Dimensions beyond these sizes can be realised on request on a project-specific basis.

Geometries

  • 2D, 2.5D & 3D machining

From precise cuts to complex 3D geometries.
